AEDC Air Show
In 2001, Arnold Engineering Development Center celebrated its 50th anniversary by conducing one of the world's best air shows. Over 100,000 people came from all over the US for the two day event which included acts such as the Air Force Thuderbirds and the Army Golden Knights. It went over so well, that the center conducted another show in the summer of 2003, and now there are plans to continue this tradition every other year. A fabulous family event with over 50 static displays and 20 flying acts per day, this event is living up to its billing every year as plans are made for a 2005 show.
Old Timer's Day and "Smokin' on the Square"
Like to eat do ya? Come on down to Manchester for the annual "Smokin' on the Square" BBQ contest sanctioned by the Florida BBQ Association. Having just completed it's second year this past October, this event has gained notoriety quickly across the BBQ grilling world as the winner moves on to the official state competition. "Smokin' on the Square" takes place on the town square in Manchester and is coupled with Old Timer's Day, a festival in its 40th year geared towards community pride with contests, exhibitions and a whole lot of fun for the entire family.
Bonnaroo Music Festival
For the past 2 years during the month of June, Manchester has become the home for 80,000+ music fans and artists in what Rolling Stone called, "The last great music festival." Since the first announcement of such an event bringing together the top jam bands in the world, there has always been a buzz about this unique event. Artists including Neil Young, Widespread Panic, Bela Fleck, The Allman Brothers Band, Emmylou Harris, James Brown and more than 30 others have performed on the fields not more than a frisbee's throw from one of Manchester's four interstate exits. Tickets sell out nearly instantaneously for this very popular event and in both 2001 and 2002, there was at least one person from every state in the US and representatives from at least 10 outside countries. This is, simply said, a one of a kind event, and a premier event in the music world today.
